Trump Picks Amy Coney Barrett as the New Supreme Court Justice Nominee

President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that he is nominating Amy Coney Barrett to take the place of Ruth Bader Ginsberg in the supreme court. The Senate still needs to confirm that choice but it is very likely that they will because the Republicans have a majority in the senate. Trump wants the Senate to confirm Barrett before the election. Some people want the choice to be made after the election since the election is so close. Amy Coney Barrett lives in South Bend, Indiana. Barrett is 48. Being a Supreme Court Justice is a huge deal and it could affect many people's lives.

The America’s Got Talent Winner Performs a Never Seen Before Act

America’s Got Talent is an annual talent show. This is season 15. For AGT this year has had it’s ups and downs. It started out as a normal year, until the COVID-19 pandemic. For the pre recorded episodes of the show, it was just the judges and the acts. On regular seasons there are over a thousand of audience members. It was very different to just be performing for the judges. For the live show, they had the audience members virtually all over the walls of the stage. However, before they could even get to the live shows, it got reported that Simon Cowel (The executive producer of America’s Got Talent, and a judge on the show) got in an electric bicycle accident and broke his back. It was quite obvious that Simon would not be judging the live show, however there were some rumors that he would somehow be at the live shows. It wasn’t clear if it would be in person over virtually. Finally the finale came, and there was no Simon. This was not so much of a surprise. On Wednesday the 23, the final night of AGT and the winner of it was announced. The winner is Brandon Leake! Brandon Leake is a spoken word artist. What he does is writes very meaningful poems, and then he speaks it to the judges virtual audience. This is the first ever spoken word artist to ever come on America’s Got Talent. Do you think there are going to be multiple spoken word artists to follow?

  • Season 15 of America’s Got Talent

  • Simon Cowel got in an electric bicycle accident

  • The show continued on even during Covid

  • Brandon Leake won

Ruth Badar Ginsburg: Rest in Power a Mini Biography

Justice Ruth Badar Ginsburg fought for many women and civil rights, and will continue to be a political icon. She was born on March 15, 1933 and lived to be 87 years old. Ginsburg was born in a poor neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York, to a Jewish family who valued hard work. Ruth was the top of her High School class, and went on to get an education at Cornell University. There  she met her husband, Martin Ginsburg. Ruth and her husband then attended Harvard University where she was a law student. Justice Ginsburg faced a lot of Sexism at Harvard, but overcame it only to have to go to her husband's classes too. Martin was diagnosed with cancer and needed to undergo intensive healing During this period, Ruth attended all of his classes and took notes for him. For most people it is a challenge to go through the Harvard curriculum taking only their own classes, but Ginsburg successfully took her and her husband's classes. Eventually, Martin defeated the cancer, graduated, and got a job. After  graduating, Ginsberg became the first female professor at Rutgers University Law School. In the 70s Ruth Badar Ginsburg led the Women's Rights Project of the American Civil Liberties Union and took several cases to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court is the highest court in the land and only takes the most important cases. Ginsburg fought not only for women, but for men who were  being discriminated against too. She was appointed to the court of Appeals in 1980 by Jimmy Carter, in 1993 she was appointed to the Supreme Court as the second woman ever to take that position. Since then, she has fought for matters such as immigration rights, same sex marriage, health care for all, and many gender rights. Justice Ginsburg has published a book and has had a documentary made about her to recollect everything that she has done. Many things that we take for granted today are only there because of her. Though she has passed away, Ruth Badar Ginsburg will never be truly forgotten.
