Russia approves the first COVID 19 vaccine

    Russia was the first country to approve a COVID 19 vaccine on Tuesday August 11. This act was met with skepticism and uneasiness because the vaccine has only been tested and studied in dozens of people. The Russian President Putin announced that the vaccine had been approved along with saying how his own daughter had been injected. He also said that “it went through the necessary tests” although Russia has given no proof to support their claims on the safety of it. Putin stands with his vaccine and believes that it is efficient and that it works. However scientists all across the world say that fast tracking it and skipping the stage three. Stage three could take months and involves tens of thousands of people. “I know it has proven efficient and forms a stable immunity,” Putin said. “We must be grateful to those who made that first step very important for our country and the entire world.” Will his vaccine succeed?

Israel and The UAE Reach a Historic Peace Treaty

    On Thursday, August 13th, Trump announced that Israel and the United Arab Emirates reached a historic peace treaty. This treaty was made in a call between US President Trump, the prince of Abu Dubi Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Teams from Israel and the UAE will be meeting soon to negotiate details of the agreement. This includes Isreali companies working openly in the UAE, flights between the two capitals, embassy, and joint work on a COVED-19 vaccine. This treaty is very important for the middle-eastern countries and will be historic.

Trump Turns Down Money USPS Needs for Mail-In Voting

    Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, millions of United States citizens would like to vote by mail. At the same time, Trump has been firing US Postal Service workers so he can stop votes from coming in.  President Trump also said that USPS needs money for votes coming in by mail, but he’ll block it. Speaking on Wednesday August 12, President Trump said he will not approve the 25 billion dollars that USPS needs, or 3.5 billion in supplemental funding for election resources. As the Washington Post reported, “‘They don’t have the money to do the universal mail-in voting. So therefore, they can't do it I guess,’ Trump said. ‘Are they going to do it even if they don’t have the money?’” How will these millions of American’s get their vote in time?

Joe Biden Picks Kamala Harris as Vice President

    Kamala Harris is the Senator of California and was chosen by Joe Biden to be the Vice President nominee and run alongside him. Biden announced this on August 11th 2020. Kamala Harris is the first black Vice President nominee, and the third woman nominated for V.P. She is currently the only black woman in the Senate. She also ran for the Demacratic nomination but she dropped out of the race and endorsed Biden. “We are in a battle for the soul of this nation. But together, it's a battle we can win.” Harris wrote in a tweet.

Portland Timbers Won the MLS is Back Tournament

    Due to COVID 19, the MLS season was belated. After about three months, MLS executives decided it was safe to continue it’s season.  It was  decided that instead of continuing the season, they deliberated to have one tournament. The tournament was called the MLS is Back Tournament. The Tournament only lasted about one month, and the Portland Timbers came out victorious. One day after the Portland Timbers won the Tournament, the next MLS season started! In these troubled times, it’s nice to have sports back on.
